That's entirely possible, I think I had this problem sometimes.
I've actually switched over to do a "fink scanpackages" and use apt-get 
for transferring the installation to other machines now, but I thought for 
a
one-time installation copying the /sw/fink might still be the easiest way 
to go. (I guess with "rsync -a" the symlinks in ./debs should be preserved.
)
