it would be nice to figure it out...and rebuilding cvs after a selfupdate
might work, since you used dpkg --purge you nukes all config files that
had to do with fink installed version of cvs and rebuilding it would go
back to default. If you try it like us know if it still fails. Anyhow
enjoy fink again :)
