Hi,
here are some comments on software I used from fink (I almost hesitate to mention this because I'll end up complaining about details that aren't terribly important - and maybe even in some FAQ ...) (a) Graphics I have used imagemagick from unstable for probably a hundred image conversions, and there is only one problem I found: when trying to convert a GIF89 movie to mpeg, I get the message zsh: command not found: mpeg2encode convert: delegate failed (mpeg2encode "%i" "%o") [No such file or directory] So I guess I could install the mpeg-encoder on my own, or just wait for the fink version... I used both the convert and display commands frequently to invoke imagemagick with various options. No other problems occured. (b) Editors A similar dependency problem happened to me in Xemacs when I ty to validate an HTML file in psgml mode - it tries to call the shell command nsgmls which isn't installed. I wasn't able to find any distribution for nsglms anywhere... (c) Sci Atlas, octave-atlas, scilab-atlas, gnuplot are all working without glitches for me. I've had them installed for about a month now. numeric-atlas is also working, but I have only had a chance to go through some baby steps with it, so all I can really say is it loaded in python and I was able to display a simple graphic with it. (d) Web I've been using sitecopy almost every day recently - no problems at all. (e) Text system-Tetex is working - no kidding... Hope this helps.
