Sorry if this is an obvious question, I tried all the documentation
first, but didn't find anything.

I used "fink install xemacs" to install xemacs on Mac OS 10.1, using
fink 0.3.2a. I installed the xemacs-sumo-pkg

Installation seemed to go fine, and xemacs itself seems to work fine.
However, my sole reason for installing xemacs is to be able to run VM
under xemacs. I run VM under xemacs regularly under Solaris 7, where
it works fine; and so I do know how to use it. But after installation
on OS 10.1 when I run VM under xemacs, xemacs crashes, and exits with
an "Illegal Instruction" error on the command-line (I'm running under
XDarwin).

Sometimes, xemacs and vm manage to stay up for a minute or so, but
sooner or later they crash. This happens even when I try installing
just the xemacs-base-pkg with fink.

I downloaded xemacs-21.1.14 from xemacs.org to see if I could compile
it myself. Of course, I couldn't. I couldn't even figure out the
options for configure. But I did see from the "INSTALL" file in the
xemacs installation directory that there is a known issue with xemacs
on OpenBSD, which apparently have a default stack size of 2MB, which
is too low. There is some more info on this (and possibly, on how to
work around it in creating a build) in the PROBLEMS file in the xemacs
installation directory. This might be relevant to setting up a build
of xemacs.

Any possibility that the xemacs maintainer (Jeffrey Whitaker..?) could
take a look at this...? Any other suggestions/fixes would also be very
helpful ...

Many thanks,
Prahlad Gupta
