I've been trying & failing to update the Gnome packages I have installed,
and I can't figure out what's going wrong. I piped the build process to a
log file, so if it would help anyone I can provide that, but the relevant
section is probably the tail, which I cite (ridiculously long lines --
sorry about this) below. Citing the final, failed steps:

Failed: compiling gnome-libs-1.4.1.4-2 failed
I have pending updates to gnome-core, gnome-libs, and gtkhtml. All three
of them are failing in substantially the same way -- they'll be satisfied
with their dependencies, successfully work through configuration, then
start the 'make' step. This will seem to work for a while (it could run
for anywhere from a good half hour to much longer than that even), but
then will bomb out with these undefined symbols error with __db185_open.
What does this mean and how can I fix it?
Thanks in advance.
