I have just installed it and everything i have tried works as it should. 
Among other things the demos and menues.

I just run "fink install scilab" after getting the .info file from cvs 
to my local unstable directory.


Fink list gives:
"
     scientificpytho 2.2-5       Python modules useful for scientific 
computing
  i  scilab          2.6-6       Scientific software for numerical 
computations
     screen          3.9.9-1     Multiplexes a physical terminal between 
sev..."
