These are low level libraries sitting underneath GTK+ (actually I think Xlib is even lower, sitting within X11 itself). No problems there. > Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Off the top of my head... no. Are you able to launch any other X11 programs? Do you have any other GTK enabled software installed (possibilities include Gvim, Amaya-gtk, lots of Gnome stuff...). I'm trying to think of an application as similar as possible to Gimp to see if a program with roughly the same dependencies can launch for you right now. Grasping at straws, but does restarting X-Windows help anything? Sorry I can't point you at an answer, but hopefully this narrows it down a little bit. Your problem shouldn't be related to the locale errors and you don't have an issue with Gdk or Xlib being available.
