This must be my problem.  My permissions and ownership are:

drwxr-xr-x   13 root     admin         398 Nov  4 15:52 fink
-rw-r--r--    1 hester   admin        1032 Jan 10 14:13 ChangeLog

I wonder why fink is owned by root.  Would it work if I do a "chown hester"
for the entire /sw directory?
