I tried a binary install of Fink on a space cramped G3 Powerbook. I found that some of the stable stuff, e.g. X, didn't work, so I followed instructions on this list (from Martn Costabel) to use my desktop's .debs as a source for my laptop. This worked. [ I'm glad to see the newer version of xfree86 will be making it to stable soon.]
When I start up X and some other apps I get messages about no locale. Because of this I get the feeling that some of the Apps ported to fink, really depend on having the developers tools installed but this is not reflected in any dependency. Am I right about this? Or is it simply because I'm installing from a build host that has the developers tools?
