In fact the problem started precisely when selfupdate brought me up to
that version. As in the update started normally, automatically built and
re-launched with 0.9.10, and then immediately failed.

Yes. And now that I've fixed Storable, it seems like all interactions with
Fink are at least an order of magnitude (or two!) faster. Scanning the
list of available packages fell from around 100 seconds on average to
around two or three seconds now. That performance is *much* better.

Well, I was kind of in a fix where I couldn't get to Fink to install
Storable in the first place there, so......

Yes, probably. I'd still like to know how it got messed up in the first
place -- I was just following the Perl 5.6.1 instructions mentioned on the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] list a while back, and I was following them to the leter
as near as I can tell. But oh well, it seems to be ok now... *shrug*
