AHHH, there it is. I think it's reasonable to assume that anything copied
over from the damaged disc is at least possibly tainted or corrupted, and
the problems could be way more subtle than just messed up config files.
It'll probably be less painful in the long run to start from scratch :/

No doubt, but a constant series of subtle, inexplicable bugs can be just
as much of a pain. I say salvage your data files & rebuild the programs.
