Here are some things I've done with Esound that are useful:
1. Quit your current sound server and run this command instead: 'esd 
-tcp -trust -port 160001'.
2. Make sure XMMS is set to use Esound 'libesd.so' (or something like 
that) instead of 'libdiskwrite.so'.
3. Open a terminal and run 'esdcat <random file>'. Does it work? If not, 
copy and paste the output from the terminal to an email and send it to 
the list.
