One idea was already proposed by fink: a corrupted or incomplete
download.
Check the file /sw/src/sawfish-1-0-repack.tar.gz: length ("ls -l"), file
type ("file") and possibly contents ("more"). It might contain an html
error message.
What version of fink do you have? Newer ones show errors reported by
curl, older ones don't.
