Hello and thanks for your immediate help Benjamin Cohen. Your help fixed
the problem with gimp, but I now have a different problem with dia. Here is
what happens now.

% dia

Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library

Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library

** WARNING **: Unable to load module: libpixbufloader-png.so: dlcompat: file
"libpixbufloader-png.so" not found

Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkcontainer.c: line 713 (gtk_container_add):
assertion `widget != NULL' failed.

Then, the dia program comes up. If I switch from say CHRONOGRAM to
FLOWCHART, I get the repeated error:

** WARNING **: Unable to load module: libpixbufloader-xpm.so: dlcompat: file
"libpixbufloader-xpm.so" not found

So close and yet, so far. This causes there to only be a bunch of circles
for options under this. I didn't bother checkint anything else out on dia.
