Hi All, I've been listening to the FINK list for only a week or so, and have not even explored OS X much yet (in favor of a SuSE 7.3 for PPC distro), so the usual advance apologies if I'm treading overworn ground. I'm certainly no unix expert, either, just a Mac guy trying to learn to swim in this new Waterworld of unix-based OSs :0)

Apparently getting devtools updates is not free? (I would have expected this was free until I saw the above posts) As I am considering the benefits of moving toward OS X plus Fink for some linux-like functionality, it seems the current devtools are useful to people on this list. But I'm not writing any software, just looking to installing some packages I may find useful. Do I need the updates to Apple Developers Tools, and can they be had for free, even if later that everyone else gets them? Do I need an Apple Developers tattoo on my shoulder or something? :0) BTW, any recommendations of books on OS X? Particularly those considered to be good for the 'average' user who just wants to learn how the OS works so that he can get stuff done efficiently? I am certainly interested in learning how to effectively use the CLI to manage and maintain my single user OS X.1 install (on my Lombard PBG3).
