For the dselect problem:  have you tried doing an 'apt-get update' like it
says?

For the selfupdate-cvs problem:  do you have the Developer Tools
installed?  If not then you probably don't have cvs.

In any case, The binary and source distributions are independent.
To update the binary package listings, use dselect or apt-get; 'fink
selfupdate' updates the listings for the source distribution, and also
upgrades fink, if needed.
