Thank you for your reply. I saw this message, but there is no "mirror" directory early in the bootstrap process when the first tools are being built.
I can work around this in a number of ways, including copying files or .debs from my working Fink installation on another machine. If this is a known problem that will be fixed in the next release of Fink, great. However, it does seem like a quick patch would help a new user who is trying to follow the instructions. WRT the title of your solution, this doesn't seem to be a "corrupted download", implying an error during transmission, this seems to be an obsolete version which will be downloaded by anyone who tries to use Fink for the first time. I am probably addressing this message to the wrong audience, and will go look at filing a bug report.
