Yes. It works. File the FAQ entry under "Covering Your Ass" :) -- if you
know what you're doing -- and if you know enough to ask, you probably know
enough to get this right -- then it can work just fine.

Yech no, much more complicated than necessary. It's been a while since
I first installed Fink, so I forget the details here, but you can either
[a] have the installer put Fink in (say) /Volumes/External/Fink or if you
already have it installed then [b] move it from /sw to a point such as the
above. Then just symlink the remote install point to /sw with a ln -s.

You can also change the installation point by editing the master config
file in $fink_dir/etc/fink.conf. I haven't tried this but it should work
just fine. I like the symlink hack though. Very easy & reliable for me.
But if you try it & anything breaks, under the CYA rule, you didn't hear
how to do this from me... ;)
