I don't think so. I just did an update-all that, among others, updated
scilab and octave to their latest version, without any problem. These
are big packages, so depending on the speed of your machine, they can
take hours to compile, octave even more than scilab. What do you mean
"crashes my computer"? Perhaps you ran out of disk space?
