Maybe the tools' time hasn' come yet. Just tried to compile their source
distribution and after a ./configure && make it produced tons of warnings
and error messages resulting in a unsuccessful build on my 10.1.

The binary installer is a bit too intrusive in my point of view. It installs
6 (!) versions of the binaries in various locations.
