I have just moved from GNU-Darwin dist to Fink, because I had so many
problems installing the former. I have installed the fink base, the
free86base, X-server, windowmaker, and xemacs. I can start the X-server
(rootless) and windowmaker with no problems. However, when I start
xemacs &, I get the following error:
WARNING:
Couldn't find an obvious default for the root of the Xemacs hierarchy.
WARNING:
Couldn't find obvious defaults for:
doc-directory
data-directory
exec-directory
lock-directory
Perhaps some directories don't exist, or the xemacs executable
/usr/local/bin/xemacs
is in a strange place?
Cannot open load file:
/usr/ports/editors/xemacs21/work/xemacs-21.1.12/lisp/auto-autoloads

My xemacs executables are in /usr/local/bin/xemacs like they are
supposed to be, and the xemacs is in
/sw/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages. I don't have a /usr/ports directory on
Darwin. Obviously, I have some kind of config problem.
The .emacs file is the same as the one I was using previously. I also
get the same warnings without an .emacs file in my directory. Has
anyone had a similar problem? Does anyone know
what I can do?
