Title: Re: su exit 1 - Oops - replied only to Ben - meant to
Thanks Ben for taking the time to reply - please understand that some of us are mainly scientists, not programmers, greatly appreciated the programs that Fink provides and the time people have put into this, but often come from a lack of knowledge.

I looked at the message in the archive - CVS appears to be giving slightly different messages, and if I do the mapping right I still don't see why I am getting the su failed (it may be obvious but not to me).  In the archive  the examples are given:

> cvs server: dists/stable/crypto/finkinfo/anubis-1.1.0-1.info is no
> longer in the repository
> cvs server: dists/stable/crypto/finkinfo/anubis-1.1.0-1.patch is no
> longer in the repository

No big deal. You have an outdated fil which will be removed.

I am getting the following, which I assume are the equivalent:

cvs server: conflict: dists/stable/crypto/finkinfo/mutt-ssl-1.3.24i-1.info is modified but no longer in the repository
C dists/stable/crypto/finkinfo/mutt-ssl-1.3.24i-1.info

So these shouldn't cause a bad exit.  In the archive, it also says:

> cvs server: Updating dists/stable/main/finkinfo/x11
> cvs update: move away
> dists/stable/main/finkinfo/x11/lesstif-0.93.18-2.info; it is in the way
> C dists/stable/main/finkinfo/x11/lesstif-0.93.18-2.info

*BAM*. There is the problem. CVS thinks that this file has Changed, but
you have a modified copy of it locally and CVS can't determine why you
made a change or whether or not it's important. Very reasonable for it not
to make any assumptions, eh? So, there are a few available remedies:

I am not getting any such messges from CVS.  So if I understand the archived message correctly, none of the warnings I am getting should cause the exit 1 from su.  Maybe I am missing something, or am misinterpreting the new messages.  Any help would be appreciated.

TIA,

Roy M.
