I have been using fink for about a year now and it has up till now worked fine. I
have installed X-windows using it and that has worked fine until my last update.

I ran sudo dselect the other day. I got a couple of errors and now X has stopped
working.

I notice that some packages that used to be necessary for other packages have now
become (unknown). What is this about?

EIOM Pri Section Package Inst.ver Avail.ver Description

 *** ? ? gtk+-shlibs 1.2.10-12 <none>

When I try to remove apt-shlibs it tells me that it is necessary for apt?

These were the errors. What should I do to get X working again:

I have just tried reinstalling but I get the messages:
vim not installed ; install (was: purge). Optional
vim depends on gtk+
gtk+ does not appear to be available

Also during the reinstall I got this message:
You have an existing X server installation in /usr/X11R6 and /Applications.
This package refuses to overwrite these. Remove them, then tell Fink to
install xfree86-rootless again.

I did that and reinstalled but it still doesn't work and I appear to get no error
messages in system.log.
