I downloaded the latest(version 4.2.0-11, Mon Aug 12) xfree86-base and -rootless and KDE is working again, thanks!!! The build and install took about 90 minutes on my iBook(G3 700 256Mb RAM) - no problems. Gnome is running fine as well.
However, I'm now experiencing another, less drastic problem. It seems that the mosfet-liquid package is no longer working. I get a lot of messages like the following in my kde start up log: QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty Conflict in /sw/lib/kde3/plugins//styles/liquid.so: Plugin cannot be queried successfully! Is this related to having installed the new xfree86? Any suggestions?
