I have an iBook2 with DVD/CD-R drive, and I'd like to copy a CD.

Is there an idiots guide to such things around somewhere?

The problem I'm having is convincing the Finder to let go of the CD. I've
tried things like this:

[mwh@localhost scratch]$ sudo umount /dev/disk1s0
[mwh@localhost scratch]$ sudo umount /dev/disk1
[mwh@localhost scratch]$ sudo readcd dev=IODVDServices f=cdimage.raw
Capacity: 359440 Blocks = 718880 kBytes = 702 MBytes = 736 prMB
Sectorsize: 2048 Bytes
Copy from SCSI (0,0,0) disk to file 'cdimage.raw'
end: 359440
readcd: Undefined error: 0. read_g1: scsi sendcmd: no error

Sense flags: Blk 0 (not valid) illegal block length

cmd finished after 0.003s timeout 40s
readcd: Undefined error: 0. Cannot read source disk
readcd: Retrying from sector 0.
.~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~+~~~-~~~
readcd: Undefined error: 0. Error on sector 0 not corrected. Total of 1
errors.

Time total: 5.741sec
Read 0.00 kB at 0.0 kB/sec.

which is accompanied by a disgruntled dialog box from the Finder telling
me that I may have lost data on these disks (err, I don't *think* so...).

Basically, I'm getting frustrated. Is there any hope, or should I give up
now? Googling has proved largely fruitless so far.

Cheers,
M.
