Thanks for the reply Martin. As always, send your problem to a mailinglist/newsgroup and you will find the answer yourself as the first reply comes in.. I sat down once I got home and comfortable and went through the dselect way of installing .debs. That method actually gave the errors that are in the system-xfree86*.info file. ie. what is $missing. So it was a flaky X11 'make World && make install' after all. I symlinked these files to test (I saved my pre-jaguar /usr/X11R6) and once I got all the 'required packages', the bastard installed. So HEADS UP that the installer script isn't outputting the $missing error message here for some reason if you 'fink install system-xfree86' - but dselect method does.
