I'll cast another vote for oroborosx.  But as another posting mentioned,
it depends on your usage.  My application usage is probably 80% 
OS X and 20% fink/Darwin based, and only occasionally X-Windows
based.  With this kind of usage oroborosx is the cleanest way to
bring up the occasional X application.  If I was a heavy X user I'd
probably go with a fully rooted Window manager/session manager like
sawfish/Gnome or KDE to use the multiple desktop capabilities.
