Please point me out if I'm wrong, but I'd suggest the process for installing
XFree86 from scratch on Jaguar would be the following:
1) Remove Fink, if it's installed:
http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-fink.php#removing
2) [Re]install Fink
3) Run `fink scanpackages'
4) Run `fink selfupdate' choosing to update from CVS, anonymously
5) Run `fink install xfree86-base xfree86-rootless'
6) Sip and enjoy.
