If you'd written to the f2c maintainer, he'd probably have said that he fixed precisely this problem when he updated f2c to version 20020123-3 for the 10.2 tree. To get it, you have to checkout the "dists" module or do what has been proposed recently to update your package description trees to the 10.2 tree.
