This my be a stupid question.

Is this:

sudo /sw/bin/fink  selfupdate

Your Fink installation is set up to update package descriptions 
directly from
CVS. Do you want to use this setup and update now? [Y/n]

I will now run the cvs command to retrieve the latest package 
descriptions.
After that, the core packages will be updated right away; you should 
then
update the other packages using commands like 'fink update-all'.

cvs -z3 update -d -P



The same as this:

$ fink selfupdate -cvs


It would seem that it obviously is, but I see so many people being 
directed to do 'fink selfupdate -cvs',  and no mention of changing 
finks settings to do the above.
