This sounds like normal to me. The middle button should be clicked and
dragged to highlight a region then on release a menu shows to choose the
mag. factor. The thrid button gives a menu with other options. The trick
is that if you move the mouse off of them they dissapear quickly.
They seem to work fine for me....
