Did you use apt-get to install it? You can't use apt-get on 10.2 because many of the binaries will not work. Some will, but as you have seen, some don't. That is why we just tell users to use "fink install.. " and compile things ONLY on jaguar.

So doing "fink install emacs21" should work fine.
