darwinports installs, by default, in /opt/local, and thus should be able to coexist peacefully with fink, with one exception. A small number of X11 applications, most notably XFree86, are installed in /usr/X11R6. Conceivably, if one installs both the fink and darwinports versions of XFree86, strange things might arise.
