Sorry to bother you with this xemacs question, I wouldn't have if
this weren't a fairly significant issue for me.
Since about December of 2001, I've used the vm mail system (running
under xemacs) sucessfully on Mac OS X. The way I used it was that I
would copy over my INBOX from the Solaris machine it runs on, to my
Mac OS X laptop, so I could deal with my email at home (with vm under
xemacs), and then copy the INBOX back to my solaris machine the next
day, etc.
Recently, I installed fink for 10.2 on a new G4 laptop exactly as per
instructions, installed XDarwin, and xemacs. vm under xemacs appears
to work on the laptop. However, it no longer properly reads an INBOX
file copied from the Solaris machine. That is vm/xemacs can
send/receive emails, and can read its own INBOX files, but not files
from somewhere else. This used to work fine with vm/xemacs under OS X
10.1. And my problem is that this is a critical piece of
functionality for me on my OS X laptop -- the ability to work away
from my office on email that I've copied from my office Solaris box.
Here is some information:
System: OS X 10.2.1, TiBook G4 800 MHz, 1 Gb RAM

Okay, that was the setup that didn't work (for copied INBOXes), as
soon as I installed Jaguar. Following xemacs discussions on the fink-users
mailing list, I tried the following fixes:
o downgrading xemacs to version 21.4.9, as made available by Jeff
Whitaker to fix a reftex problem with xemacs
-- that didn't solve the inability to read copied INBOX files
o downgrading xemacs-sumo-pkg to xemacs-sumo-pkg-20020720 (as
suggested by Steve Anderson to fix the reftex problem with xemacs) and
rebuilding version 21.5.9-1
-- that didn't solve the problem.
o rebuild version 21.4.9 to use xemacs-sumo-pkg-20020720
-- that didn't solve the problem
At this point I have no idea of other things to try --
I would be very grateful for any help or suggestions --
