Well, I was aware of the problems of ghostscript 6 with teTeX. These troubles doesn't seem to happen with version ghostscript 7.05.5 (at least for me)...

In the meantime, I looked at what is installed with system-ghostscript. It links all the 'gs' tools in /sw/bin/ to the ones in /usr/local/bin/. I checked they are hopefuly all there with my hand made GS. It also creates some other links that are functional. Only 3 links can't be done because the target doesn't exist with the wanted name :

share/doc/ghostscript@ -> /usr/local/share/ghostscript/6.01/doc
share/ghostscript/6.01/examples@ -> /usr/local/share/ghostscript/6.01/examples
share/ghostscript/6.01/lib@ -> /usr/local/share/ghostscript/6.01/lib

In fact those targets exist with /6.01/ replaced by /7.05.5/

Is there a simple way to force the installation and then change or redo manually the broken links ? And will it work ?

Thanks
Bapts

As I understand it (and I will accept correction if I'm wrong) the issue
is that ghostscript 6 is used for TeX, because there were problems with
PDF files generated by ghostscript 7 on OSX (this may since have been
corrected). Because a number of people installed ghostscript 6 for TeX
purposes from a non-fink installer, a system-ghostscript package was
created for this purpose. Basically the system-ghostscript package just
looks for a manual installation of ghostscript 6.

You may have to do a manual build of gv in order for it to see your GS.

 Hi fink-users !

 I've manually installed Ghostscript 7.05.5 from scratch. I needed the
 Gimp-Print drivers + X11 ones, so I didn't use the ESP version (it
 doesn't include X11 drivers), I recompiled GS with all the drivers in
 it. It works perfectly with teTeX.

 Then I wanted to install GV. As GS is already installed, I tried the
 'system-ghostscript' package... it doesn't work complaining that
 there is no ghostscript 6.01 installed. OK fink is roght here, but a
 newer version is installed, so how can I get my manually installed GS
 seen by fink ?

 I'm using Jaguar and the corresponding fink version (0.11.0-1).

 Thanks in advance
