If you get one (an idea), please publish it. Everybody is getting this error, and it doesn't sound nice. But xemacs works nevertheless.
I've been able to establish that it has occurred on FreeBSD 4.0 with error 24 from 'shmat', which indicates that shared memory segments have been exhausted. I will try to investigate further. But, as you say, the problem is unlikely to affect most users of XEmacs.
