open the console application in /Applications/utilities before starting
x darwin, and you'll see output there.

We use Fink (to get the dlcompat package) to help build ACE (Adaptive Communications Environment, a cross-platform C++ system-framework) on Mac OSX 10.2. This works great, but we get the following warning, and i'm not quite sure what to make of it. So, I pose thee, masters of all that is Fink and likely dlcompat, what is the secret of the warning? Who does it serve? :-) ld: warning dynamic shared library: /sw/lib/libdl.dylib not made a weak library in output with MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET environment variable set to: 10.1 I've considered just trying to find where MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET is set, and set it to something like 10.2 (though ACE built in some form on earlier versions of OSX, I believe it's only going to be supported on 10.2 and above), but i'd like to know what this warning is trying to tell me before just throwing poop against the wall and seeing what sticks <g>. Read through the release notes in the developer documentation directory,

do with whether missing symbols at runtime is considered a fatal error on
startup or not, for applications that use weak references.

Ben:
(Note: I am running OS 10.2.3)
1. Upon running `fink -V', I receive this:
Package manager version: 0.11.0
Distribution version: 0.5.0a.cvs
2. I've tried to update fink by running `fink selfupdate-cvs'
which has worked in the past. The output of the command
ends like this:
....
pkg storable-pm version ###
pkg storable-pm version 1.0.14-1
No packages to install.
The core packages have been updated. You should now
update the other packages using commands like 'fink
update-all'.
3. I guess that looks good even though it _always_ says that
"the core packages have been updated." Then I try `fink
update-all' and it ends like:
pkg libwww-shlibs version ###
pkg libwww-shlibs version 5.3.2-4
pkg netcat version ###
pkg netcat version 1.10-4
No packages to install.
4. The version of xfree86-base still remains out of date:
i xfree86-base 4.2.0.1-1 XFree86 libraries, util ...
5. Here's a dump of my /sw/etc/fink.conf:

Subject: [Fink-users] self-update error installing ncurses w/ dpkg
Hi all,
I'm getting an error with dpkg installing ncurses when I do % fink
selfupdate-cvs. I'm thinking it's possible that my HD doesn't have
enough available space? I'm running 10.2.2 and the July 2002 DevTools.
The errors are at the bottom of this email.
If you have any ideas, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Dan
