The problem is, regardless of what shell you're using,This has always been true, even on 10.1 or earlier. Your .xinitrc should always be using "source /sw/bin/init.sh" instead of init.csh, and then Fink works inside your X11 environment just fine.
Apple's "X11 for Mac OS X" lives in bash... so you have to deal with it.
