In this particular case, it's likely libxine -- which requires threaded X.running a fink install of it and I'd like an easy way to hunt down this (broken?) dependency and kill it but I can't think of anything short of reading through 188 package .info files.
You should be able to do 'sudo apt-get remove libxine-shlibs' (and let it remove anything that depends on it), and then try again and see if that helps.
