2 - When I run pkg-config on gtk I've got this:
pkg-config --cflags --libs gtk+-2.0
-I/sw/include/gtk-2.0 -I/sw/lib/gtk-2.0/include -I/sw/include/atk-1.0 -I/sw/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/X11R6/include -I/sw/include/freetype2 -I/sw/include -I/sw/include/glib-2.0 -I/sw/lib/glib-2.0/include -L/sw/lib -lgtk-x11-2.0 -lgdk-x11-2.0 -latk-1.0 -lgdk_pixbuf-2.0 -lm -lpangoxft-1.0 -lpangox-1.0 -lpango-1.0 -lgobject-2.0 -lgmodule-2.0 -lglib-2.0 -lintl -liconv
3 - When inspecting both /sw and /usr directories I've found this:
In /sw/lib/:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 1249064 Jan 6 16:34 libfreetype.6.3.0.dylib*
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 23 Mar 3 08:31 libfreetype.6.dylib -> libfreetype.6.3.0.dylib*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root admin 1339372 Jan 6 16:34 libfreetype.a
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 23 Mar 3 08:31 libfreetype.dylib -> libfreetype.6.3.0.dylib*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 738 Jan 6 16:34 libfreetype.la*
in /usr/X11R6/lib/:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root admin 272520 Feb 14 22:57 libfreetype.6.2.dylib
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 21 Feb 17 10:20 libfreetype.6.dylib -> libfreetype.6.2.dylib
-rw-r--r-- 1 root admin 351624 Feb 14 22:57 libfreetype.a
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 21 Feb 17 10:20 libfreetype.dylib -> libfreetype.6.2.dylib
Why a different version on /sw and on /usr? The 6.3.0 on /sw seems from the version number be more recent, but the dates seem to tell the contrary.
4 - I run both XDarwin (all packages via fink cvs) and X11 (latest beta and SDK), December dev tools and SDK, Mac OS 10.2.4.
5 - I'm a zero at compiling, linking and the like from the command line, i.e. I've ever used tools which did the job for me to find the right libraries. What will really do a ranlib on /usr/X11R6/lib/libfreetype.a? Update from /usr or update from /sw?
I fear to break the current installation which works if I launch commands I don't really understand what they do.
