This is a precious hint, thanks. (Why not adding this link to the FAQ?)

AFAIK, it's in the users guide now. Better yet, if you have a fink version 0.13 or later, fink already knows about it and looks there as a last resort if it doesn't find it on another mirror:

[imac:]martin% fink fetch lynx
sudo /sw/bin/fink fetch lynx
Information about 2557 packages read in 3 seconds.

curl -f -L -O ftp://lynx.isc.org/lynx/release/lynx2.8.4.tar.bz2
curl: (9) Couldn't cd to lynx/release
### execution of curl failed, exit code 9
Downloading the file "lynx2.8.4.tar.bz2" failed.

(1) Give up
(2) Retry the same mirror
(3) Retry using next mirror set "master"

How do you want to proceed? [3]
curl -f -L -O http://distfiles.opendarwin.org/lynx2.8.4.tar.bz2
