I really like fink. I love to rant to my friends about how it brings
Debian goodness to OS X. But sometimes it just needs help "processing"
its issues.

Indy: Fink! Compile and install sylpheed-ssl!

Fink: Are you sure that's what you really want?

Indy: Yes!

Fink: Are you aware of what that means for us? You have to realize
that if I compile and install sylpheed-ssl, I'm going to have to
compile and install other packages. I'm worried that too many other
packages will cause problems in our relationship. Do you think that
we're ready for this step?

Indy: Yes!

Fink: Okay. I need to know where you stand on using ssl with other
libraries.

Indy: Use SSL!

Fink: I couldn't find the right tarball for jpilot? What should I
do? Should I abandon everything that we've worked on so far?

Indy: Er, hold on... [downloads tarball from another location] Try
this one.

Fink: This tarball doesn't match my checksums. I don't think that
you're respecting my integrity as a coherent system. You can't just
give me any old tarball! I have needs too. You need to understand
that.

Indy: Can't you just try to use the tarball anyhow?

Fink: This directory structure is all wrong. This isn't what I
expected at all. Where did you get this tarball? Did this tarball
come from Project Debian! Did it?! Indy! We've been over this. I'm
not Debian! I can't *be* Debian for you. I'm a different system than
Debian! Don't try to make me Debian. You need to get over your
separation issues with Debian! I need you to be with me, for me. I
don't want you to see Debian every time you look at me!

Indy: Oh come off it, you're a just a UNIX.

Fink: I'm not! I'm not just another UNIX! I am a Mac! I am unique! I
Think Different! I'm open source, but that doesn't mean you can treat
me like I'm just some flavor of Linux. You need to acknowledge the
fact that my individuality is of tremendous worth! We've been together
for years, but you still confuse me with all those other operating
systems that you've been with.

Indy: Is this really about my past relationships to Windows? I did
that because I had to. It meant nothing to me.

Fink: Then why do you treat me like a PC? Do you think I'm a PC? Oh,
sure, you want me to be a Mac when you do graphic design and when you
need to use commercial software. But then you want me to be a PC when
it's convenient for *you*. What about my needs? What about what is
good for me?! You know that I need to be a Mac as much as possible.
You need to respect the heritage of my people.

Indy: Fine. I repacked the tarball with a different directory name,
will you use it now?

Fink: I'll try.

...

Indy: Hey, how about aspell-en?

Fink: I couldn't find it, but don't worry, I can go to another
*continent*, I have nothing better to do than work miracles for you.
Will that make you happy? Will that make you value me as a system?
Maybe while I'm doing that, you can think about exactly where this
relationship is going.

By Indy and Jessie.
