Which pango1 package did you try to install: pango1-xft1 or pango1-xft2? You should have picked -xft1.

The package versions shown are the latest versions, not what you have currently.

You will also need to fix the imlib problem, because it causes dpkg to get confused. The fix is in the FAQ:

http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-fink.php#bad-list-file

You say that this entry didn't help because you don't have a .deb: did you read the part where it said:

"if you don't have the deb file, you can still proceed because the error doesn't interfere with builds. Just use fink rebuild packagename , to build the .deb--it won't install yet, though." Are you sure you don't have the .deb anywhere (like /sw/var/cache/apt/archives)

i.e. use "fink rebuild imlib", then do all of the grubby dpkg/awk stuff.

I saw on the devel list that someone had the same issue as I have now, when trying to install some packages (xchat, gaim, gtk, etc.). I was wondering if there was any workaround to this. The original email was at http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/ msg05379.html

Here's the end of the messages I got when trying to install:

configure: error: pangoxft Pango backend found, but Xft not found
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
### execution of ./configure failed, exit code 2
Failed: compiling gtk+2-2.2.1-6 failed

When I list my installed fink pkgs here are the related ones (but the versions don't seem to jive):
(i) gtk+ 1.2.10-15 The Gimp Toolkit
(i) gtk+-data 1.2.10-15 The Gimp Toolkit
(i) gtk+-shlibs 1.2.10-15 The Gimp Toolkit
(i) xfree86-base-shli 4.2.1.1-4 XFree86 libraries, utilities, clients and data

(I guess that means they're really set to be removed)

In other news, I also get this error now when trying to remove gtk+:

(Reading database ... dpkg: error processing gtk+ (--remove):
files list file for package `imlib' is missing final newline

Errors were encountered while processing:
 gtk+
Processing was halted because there were too many errors.

dpkg --remove returned error exit status 1.

I also got it when installing some other packages. I read the FAQ, but the suggestion for this error didn't help. I noticed that it's talking about imlib, but i dont seem to have a deb file for that. I had tried toying with the .deb for the package i was installing (i had also got it with xchat and python apparently).

I hope this is clear to somebody. :) Let me know if you need clarification.

TIA
