Try this: sudo dpkg remove --force-depends system-xfree86 fink install system-xfree86
Then pick [1] as you did before. Basically the problem is that system-xfree86 originally was a provider of the x11 virtual package, but now it's just a placeholder for system-xfree86-42 or system-xfree86-43.
