I may be the only one who didn't know this, but in case there are others, I thought I would point out that the Panther installer does not automatically install Apple's X11 1.0. On all of my machines that had beta versions of Apple's X11 running under Jaguar, the installer went through disks 1 and 2, and then appeared satisfied. It took me a while to figure out that I had to install the contents of disk 3 manually in order to update X11 properly. And then (as has already been pointed out here) after installing XCode, you also have to install the X11 SDK manually.

I would really think the installer could see what you have and prompt you to update it, but it looks like it doesn't work that way.
