A little late here (was on the road and couldn't risk key packages not working) on a TiBook running 10.2.8 on which I put the Aug Dev tools update to get to gcc3.3 I did an rsync update and watched it do the following:
Preparing to replace fink 0.15.0-1 (using .../fink_0.16.0-1_darwin-powerpc.deb) ... Unpacking replacement fink ... Setting up fink (0.16.0-1) ... Checking system... powerpc-apple-darwin6.8 This system is supported and tested. ln -s 10.2-gcc3.3 /sw/fink/dists <<excellent, sync's in the right tree!>> Your apt/sources.list file needs to be updated to match your current Fink distribution 10.2-gcc3.3. Would you like to update this file now? [Y/n] mv /sw/etc/apt/sources.list.new /sw/etc/apt/sources.list Reading package info... MANPATH: Undefined variable. Use of uninitialized value in chomp at /sw/lib/perl5/Fink/PkgVersion.pm line 150 . [several hundred lines like the last two removed] The following 8 packages will be installed or updated: apt apt-shlibs cctools-extra dpkg fink-prebinding ncurses ncurses-dev ncurses-shlibs <<whereupon it successfully installs the above and presents me with many outofdate packages>> So...that MANPATH error is probably because FinkCommander doesn't have it set by default? I have added it, and will try adding it BEFORE doing the same to my G4 next week to see if it fixes the problem. So far it doesn't seem to have caused any problems to the fink setup or install though. Brilliant work folks, I will start recompiling the outdated packages and see if I run into any problems that need fixing. I see a few of the packages I rely on haven't made it to the gcc3.3 tree yet, so I hope they don't get broken by this: grace is the one that would cause me big trouble; pine-ssl I guess I just revert to plain pine, and I guess xv, a2ps aren't likely to break? -- Viv ------------------------------------------------ Dr Viv Kendon [EMAIL PROTECTED] QOLS tel: 020 7594 7746 Blackett Laboratory Imperial College London ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: SF.net Giveback Program.
