[Fink-users] Weird Formatting in Emacs Info Dir: F/U

Last month, I wrote that I was having trouble with the main Info 
directory in Emacs due to weird formatting i.e.:

GNU programming tools
* Autoconf: (autoconf).                                                 Create
                                                                        source
                                                                        code
                                                                        config
                                                                        uratio
                                                                        n
                                                                        script
                                                                        s
(Yes, I know I should be grateful to have emacs at all!)

I've traced the problem a little bit farther: It to be in 
install-info, which inserts entries into /sw/share/info/dir. 
Inspection of this file shows that the bad formatting is present 
already. Can anyone think of the reason install-info is doing this?
