First, props to the fink team. Running Panther and (almost) everything is perfect. The setup for the following question is a clean install of Panther with X11.app 1.0. I then did the source bootstrap for fink 0.6. I then ran a selfupdate-cvs. I then did a fink install gimp. Everything worked as expected. On a new OS, that's impressive so, once again, props to the fink team. Now for my problem.
I'm trying desperately to get some more fonts for use with the GIMP and not having much luck.
I pulled copied over the MS Core fonts from a Windows machine (since the core fonts package isn't in the 10.3 tree) and put them in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/ but I still can't use them.
I ran ttfmkfontdir and they now show up in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/fonts.dir but I still can't use them.
I ran fc-cache and they now show up in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/fonts.cache-1 but I still can't use them.
I ran fink install xfontpath and changed my .xinitrc to read source /sw/bin/init.sh /sw/bin/xfontpath install /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/ /sw/bin/xfontpath enable exec quartz-wm
Still nothing. If I had any hair I'd pull it out. Any suggestions? (This used to be so simple back in the day. You ran the TTF font server and added a line to XF86config. What happened?)
Thanks, Mark "Skippy" DuPrey
