Note that as of earlier today, the current version is 4.40. (4.38 is
available from Python CVS or the latest - 2.3.2 - release.) A release
separate from Python hasn't yet been made, but there is a nascent SF
project:

I have no idea if fink can grab it from there or not. If not, I'll look at
creating a release.
