I had some problems with OS X 10.3.1 / Fink / XMMS / esd.
After compiling xmms and starting up esd+xmms I had this strange error
that when I selected multiple mp3 files for xmms to play the player
just froze after the end of the first track. In contrast - when selecting only
single mp3s for playback everything is fine.
In /var/log/system.log some messages..

So probably a buffering problem with the audio stream?
However - I found this workaround:
Open XMMS preferences -> Options -> Click on "Pause between songs for 2 seconds" (maybe 1s is also sufficient)
This seems to avoid the buffer overrun.
Cheers, Kai.
